Blog: Advice

Baruch students should be able to view textbooks online instead of having to visit the actual library to view the textbook, since colleges have a really low number of textbooks available. Similar to what an article from Tullahoma News titled “Open source textbook program expanding in coming months” by Andrea Agardy, with them expanding open source textbooks so the money they get from the district goes into technology. Students of Baruch would have to sign in using their cuny id’s to view the exact problems that is required for the assignment. The open source would of course have different formats of the examples but similar in context. Since the prices of textbooks have only been increasing and frequency in new editions, it seems so impractical to have to be required by some teachers to get the newest edition compared to an edition older with a range of hundreds of dollars. Implementing this would help with so many college students who are struggling finically. If they wanted, the school could add on an optional fee that would give addition benefits to the user. As of now, there are ebooks and other references on Baruch library but, it does not always have certain parts or are just missing the book in general. With the money earned there, it could go back into the school with additional furniture’s, electronics, and even structural improvements.
